The Lower Prospect Canal cyclepath is closed between the Hylands Rd ramp and Prospect Reserviour from 28 April 2008 until 1 October 2008. A sign was erected to inform cyclists of the closure only last week.
The purpose of the closure seems to be ‘realignment’ of the path to make way for a new road through the area.
CAMWEST will keep you posed of any developments. In the meantime, it is possible to detour via the T-Way path beside Hylands Rd, then via Walter St, Victoria St, Canley Vale Rd Sth, then beside Cowpasture Rd to rejoin the Canal path via the Pimelia Picnic ground. This route is NOT signposted, but it is 100% off-road path, except for a 4 lane uncontrolled crossing of Cowpasure Rd at the intersection with Horsely Drive. The detour contains five stops to wait for traffic lights. There is about 20 metres of grass and gravel at the picnic ground end. Access can then be gained to the M7 via the Horsely Drive pathway.

All of these detours are open 24 hours a day, but be warned that they are not signposted. Holroyd Council are attempting to get the developer to create an ‘official’ detour route; in the meantime this is the best we have.

As far as we know, it’s still possible to ride from Abbotsbury and Horsely Park through to Blacktown as usual.
If you are just trying to go through to the reserviour for a social or training ride or to use the toilets and water tap I suggest you find somewhere else to ride for the next six months.
